Guys, do you need some advice on which swimwear to choose?

There are so many types of men’s swimwear around today it’s a nightmare to know which type are ideal for your water sport and will suit your body shape best.

  • Briefs

These are the most traditional item of swimwear available and are available from the majority of leading swimwear brands including Speedo and Zoggs. They give the least amount of coverage but give the most support whilst in the water. Swimming briefs are ideal for regular pool use and training as they don’t cause heavy drag in the water and often come with a chlorine resistant material. Briefs are also a popular choice for racing and performance swimming as they are minimal fabric and close fitting.

  • Aquashorts

Aquashorts are similar to briefs but give a little more coverage, they are pretty much half way between a brief and a jammer. The short leg length allows you to have a great range of movement in the water and give little drag in the water. Check out the fabric type is looking for a pair that are sure to be long lasting.

  • Jammers

Jammers are a knee length swim short with a close fitting style and give much more coverage than aquashorts or briefs. These are a firm favourite with competitive swimmers in both training and performing. If needing a pair for swimming training or regular pool use choose a fabric with chlorine resistancy like the Speedo Endurance Plus fabric or Xtra Life Lycra. When performing it isn’t essential to have a chlorine resistant fabric but to have a fabric which is tight fitting and compresses the muscles slightly.

  • Swim shorts

Swim shorts are a hugely popular choice with leisure swimmers or those who spend time in and out of the water as they are often quick drying, sometimes offer UV protection for outdoor use and of course look great. Swim shorts can come in different lengths from knee length to board length.

Choosing your swimwear

We know that men come in a lot of different shapes and sizes so it is important to choose swimwear best suited to your shape. Need some help?

• Tall and big? Then it isn’t so much the style of the swimwear that you need to worry about, but the pattern. Go for a block colour over a print and if you do choose a print then choose small patterns.
• Tall and thin guys are best suited to a baggy, board short style for the summer as this will help to bulk up your size a little if you are conscious of being thin. Just don’t go way over the top with the bagginess of your short!
• Those with a short and athletic build are better off going with a brief, aquashort or shorter length short to give the appearance of being taller. A low waistband with show off your abs but it’s best to avoid the long board shorts.
• Tall and athletic builds are lucky and can wear any style of swimwear. Just go for a great colour to match your skin tone.
• Carrying a little extra weight? Go for a loose fitting, board short style for spending time down the beach or relaxing in the sun and a swim short for leisure swimming as they will suit your figure the most.

The Fastskin 3 Goggle reduces drag more than any other goggle available on the market today and causes 63.4% less drag than the Speedo Aquasocket goggle, a firm favourite with many of our customers! A new technology called dive stream which has never been used until now, protects your eyes during dives and turns whilst the hydroscopic lens gives you 180 degree vision of all competitors in the pool. The goggle shape is completely unique as it is designed to improve the shape of your head whilst you wear the goggles by reducing drag and improving the total profile of your body. Fastskin 3 Cap

Fastskin 3 Cap

The Speedo Fastskin 3 Cap is the final piece in the Speedo Fastskin 3 Package and has been created using a 3D head scan to give the most incredible fit. Fit point markers have been used by Speedo to enable you to align the cap with the rest of your Fastskin 3 products and give an exceptional fit.

For those with longer hair, a hair management system is available which helps to secure your hair under the hat and keep it in place. The benefits of swimming legsuits

It seems so obvious when you think about it, but women’s swimming costumes with combined shorts/legs have been a long time becoming mainstream. No doubt you’ll have seen these swimsuits with legs being worn by triathletes. Many male swimmers also sport tight-fitting swimming shorts but it’s not until recently that legsuit costumes for women have been more frequently seen in the pool.

The genius of swimming costume legsuits

The genius of swimming costume legsuits

The strange thing is that many women love the concept but still haven’t braved the look. Maybe it’s a traditional thing. Swimming costumes for women have traditionally been styled with higher legs. But many women really do not like that area of their body at the top of their thighs!

The average swimming costume does little to hide this area and lays bare the upper thigh to the general public.

Rising popularity of swimming legsuits

Ah, but at long last, the swimming legsuit is becoming more popular. Swimming costume legsuits are great for all kinds of swimming sessions and for pool-based activities such as aqua aerobics. There are shorter and longer-legged versions and the designs are as different and as funky as any other swimming costume or bikini. Many swimming legsuits are designed to make you more streamlined in the pool, as well as for comfort and boosted self-confidence.

How to get more women back in the swimming pool

We’ve been been thinking that this kind of swimming costume would be the perfect way to encourage more girls and women back into the swimming pool. You do see more women employing their own upper leg hiding techniques, such as wearing shorts over their swimming costumes or keeping the towel wrapped around them until they dive into the pool. But with a swimming costume legsuit you can walk the poolside or beach with confidence and swim like a fish.

Oh, and without wanting to get too personal, there is another advantage of the legsuit swimming costume. If you’re in a hurry or you simply can’t be bothered, these suits are perfect for those times when you might not have shaved your bikini line! We’re just saying!

So if you’re keen on swimming, or thinking about getting back into the pool, and you want a swimming costume that is practical and comfortable and also looks flattering we recommend a swimming costume legsuit. They’re genius!

Emma’s Swimming Kit Bag

Hi, my name’s Emma and I’ve been involved in swimming for about 15 years. I was a swimmer from the word go and started swimming competitively at about 8 years old – I have been hooked since then! A few years ago I started coaching swimming and am a qualified teacher and teach every week with some amazing kids. Now I work here at Simply Swim and wanted to share with you my favourite swimming equipment and what my essentials are in my swimming kit bag!

The obvious pieces are the swimming costume, hat and goggles.

Speedo Endurance Plus Sprintrate Leaderback

Speedo Endurance Plus Sprintrate Leaderback

My favourite swimming costume at the moment is the Speedo Endurance Plus Sprintrate Leaderback as it’s bright in the phantom purple colour and is 100% chlorine resistant (so will last about 20 times longer than a traditional fabric in the pool!). For guys, I doubt you’d have the swimming costume in there but there are a fantastic selection of jammers and trunks to choose from.
I always have a silicone cap (or two!)  in my kit bag as they are so comfortable to wear and are really long lasting. I couldn’t pick a favourite as there are so many colours and patterns to choose from at Simply Swim!

My favourite swimming goggles for racing are the Speedo Speedsocket Mirror Goggles as I like being able to get in the zone before a big race, no one can see your eyes and the double head strap keeps them in place for the dive. For training I use the Speedo Futura BioFUSE . They are so comfortable to wear for a hours in the pool and have an anti-fog lens too so you have clear vision underwater with no annoying fog!

Zoggs Silicone Blue-Finz

Zoggs Silicone Blue-Finz

My training essentials that I always carry are my fins, hand paddles and a pull buoy. I really like using the Zoggs Silicone Blue-Finz whilst training as they are really comfortable and fit really well. They are light in my bag so don’t make my bag really heavy with everything else!

When working my upper body I put my Speedo BioFUSE Finger Paddle on. They give really good resistance whilst I swim but the shape makes them surprisingly comfortable and give me a great grip on the water.
The Head Pullbuoy is one of my favourites to use as the foam doesn’t soak up the water and it’s lightweight in my bag.

I always have a water bottle handy for when I’m training. You under-estimate how much exercise you do whilst swimming so I use the Maru Drink Bottle . It’s red colour matches my bag and I can see how much drink I have left and when I need to go and refill.

When getting out the pool the first thing I grab is my towel. I use the Zoggs Koolan Towel at the moment as it’s really soft against the skin and dries quickly after I have used it.

Of course one important part of the swimming equipment is the bag! You need something to hold all your important swimming equipment in! My bag of choice is the TYR Alliance Team Duffel II . It is easy to spot on poolside amongst the hundreds of other swim bags as it has a bright red colour and is big enough to hold all my swimming kit in.

Feel Confident In A Skirtini

SkirtiniA lot of us struggle with getting into shape for the summer. An NHS survey has shown that 66% of women dislike their stomach and nearly a quarter of women are not confident about their thighs. 74% of people asked admitted they miss out on water activities because they have no confidence in their swimsuit body.

What better way is there to feel more confident about yourself than doing a bit of swimming in your local pool? Swimming is great exercise to get your body into shape as it tones all over and being a continuous exercise is one of the best ways for calorie burning.

But still have the issue about getting your body out and into a swimming costume? Do not panic, there is a solution to this!

The skirtini (a swimming costume with a skirt) helps to cover up your stomach and thighs whilst coming in gorgeous designs that will look amazing! Swimwear with skirts ensure you have no need to worry about showing your body as they discretely skim over your stomach and tops of your thighs. Check out the Speedo Waveboom and Zoggs Altona which are our favourite’s and look out for swimming skirts in the future, they are sure to be around for seasons to come!

The latest Zoggs swimwear just in…

ZoggsWe’ve been busy recently, adding a fine range of men’s women’s and children’s swimwear to the Simply Swim website. Australian brand Zoggs have come up with a broad choice of swimwear to suit all needs and most of Zoggs swimwear is chlorine-resistant, making it ideal for regular pool use.

Zoggs swimsuits are great because they’re both practical and good to look at. Zoggs maternity swimming costumes come in shorts style tankini or scoop back styles and are flattering and really comfortable to wear.

Men’s swimwear from Zoggs

There’s a wide choice of Zoggs swimwear for men, too. The chlorine-resistant jammers and shorts are perfect for performance swimming or regular pool use. There’s a new style out this season Zoggs Toggs in a briefs style. This new range comes in 3 prints and is ideal for either regular swimming or beach holidays. For loose fitting shorts, there are the Mackay and Coolan styles.

This is a great brand that’s branched out from swimming goggles to offer a full range of swimwear and accessories for men, women and children that brilliantly combines functionality, comfort and style.

Swimwear designs to be showcased

International designers are getting ready to showcase their latest creations at the annual Swimshow Australia event.

A runway show on March 23 will launch the start of the three-day event, which takes place at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland.

SwimshowVIP guests will see designs from top brands such as Speedo, while designers including Luli Fama and Hurley will also feature in the 45-minute show.

The other two days of the event will be based around trading, with international buyers, designers and media attending.

”Peak buying season is March for 2011 summer collection.”
